Week 30

What's up family! so much has happened this week! Saturday I found out that I'm getting transferred!!! I still don't know where I'm going but because there's only 8 areas with Spanish elders, I have a pretty good idea where I'm going! the only place I could go, realistically, would be Frankfort Kentucky! which is the capital of Kentucky! its actually the area just to the east of Shelbyville so I'm not going far! I'm still not positive but the way it works is all the missionaries that are getting transferred go to Louisville and have a "transfer meeting" and what happens there is president Brough will get up at the pulpit and announce where everybody is going and who their new companion will be! So I'm pretty excited! I've loved it here in Shelbyville and I've had a great time but I'm ready for a change!

Other than that this week was pretty average! it was good though I cant complain! I got your package on Tuesday and it was great! thank you so much!! I loved all the pictures you guys sent and ive got a couple to send you guys from the glasses haha also on Wednesday I got a package from the Katie and Jason (and niños) which was great!!

On Friday we went and help a less active guy move a safe into his basement in a tiny town called southville Ky and it was pretty cool! he was white but we started talking and he told us he was born in Chihuahua Mexico in the Mormon colonies down there so we is technically Mexican haha he was a way cool guy! he took us to a little tiny hole in the wall café/store/house/family business thing called Carriss's and we got some homemade Cheeseburgers and Fries and it was really good!

The work here in Shelbyville has really grown and progressed a lot since I first came here and its a little hard to just pack up and leave it but its comforting to know that this is what the lord wants and really theres people everywhere that need help and the gospel so anywhere I go is exactly where I need to be!

Love you guys so much! hope you all have a great week!

Week 29

Whats up guys!! how has everybody been?! this week has been an interesting one for sure haha.  not a whole lot knew, still working with a few people trying to help them as best as we can! its been really really rainy here in Shelbyville and Wednesday was a day to remember haha or probably more like forget! so we were on bicycles and it literally was a straight down pour all day long like literally it didn't stop raining the whole day.  We didn't have any appointments planned all day so literally we just knocked doors for hours haha and because we were soaking wet nobody let us in! I think it was the first day in my mission where I didn't make it into a single house all day! it was pretty rough but honestly the day wasn't super bad! its like one of those days that just sucks so bad that it was kinda fun and amusing haha so yeah!

Other than that our week went by pretty normal! We met a lady named veronica and she said we could come back to visit with her on sunday so we went and brought a member named Mauricio and he ended up knowing her! She is pregnant and has a few other kids and Mauricio knew her Boyfriend and so we taught her the first lesson and it went pretty good! we explained the restoration of the gospel and about José Smith and the Book of Mormon and it went over pretty well! we tried to get her to say the closing prayer at the end of the lesson and she said she had never prayed vocally before and so we explained very simply how to prayer and she still wasn't feeling it haha so we told her we could each take turns and say a very simple prayer and she agreed and so we all said our own prayers one at a time and when it was her turn she just kinda sat there and closed her eyes and started crying(she had earlier told us that her boyfriend is in jail right now and is having some legal problems and will most likely be deported in the next few days) but she was very grateful for us coming over and told us she couldn't read super well but she would try to read the book of Mormon this week! so that's pretty exciting!

Im super happy for the Cavemen!! that's awesome! Coach Behm deserves some long awaited success haha

Other than that not much new! a lot of rain and cold weather here! but probably not as cold as Utah!

Elder Plumb got an ear infection haha yeah not much going on here!

anyway love you guys! hope you all have a great week!

Para siempre Dios esté con vos!

Week 28

HEY!! WHATS UP!!! This week was a really good one! ALOT has happened!

First of I just want to say that the power of prayer is so real!!!! it made a huge difference this week with Wilmer! you're prayers seriously worked wonders!! so we went over there on Friday and we tried to just completely avoid the subject of the Sabbath Day and all we talked about was the Book of Mormon! So we just explained everything in way more details and he still wanted more! like he asked us about the plates and where they came from and who has them now and who were the prophets that wrote it and what did they prophesy about and what the bible said about the book of Mormon and we explained everything to him and he asked us what are some main basic doctrines of the church and we told him that next time we had a little card with something called "the Articles of Faith" on it (conveniently just given to me by mis padres!) and he was a lot more receptive this time and it felt like an actual lesson instead if just an argument it was great! he told us that the bible says "by their fruits ye shall know them" so he just wants to get to know a lot more of the doctrine of the church and of the prophets, which is great! because if he will read the book of Mormon and the words of the prophets he will know its true!

Another guy we have been working with is named Adan (just Spanish for Adam), and its been going really well! we met him a few weeks ago and just barely began to start teaching him and he is great! last time we met with him he opened the door and yelled "What's up man!?!" in English haha he's a really funny guy and he is pretty receptive of the gospel! we are pretty hopeful for him!

We've been working with a few other people and things have been really looking up here in Shelbyville! I think most of it is my attitude haha I'm trying really really hard to just focus on the positive!

Also something else that is pretty positive is that the Great Kentucky Louisville Mission is now getting iPads!! The only bummer is we have to pay for our own and their $400 haha so if you wanna try selling my blue electric guitar that might be good! (NOT the black one!) but yeah we get to keep it after the mission to because we pay for it so I'll use it for school and stuff so that's good! we will pay for it and out the order in in November through the mission and it'll get here by December or January so yeah I'm pretty excited for that! all of the records and paperwork we do will be entered digitally and so that'll be cool!

So something really funny happened to me this week! we were sitting in our apartment during study time and the other two elders went out to check the mail, and its a well known fact in Shelbyville that Elder Follett gets a lot of letters and mail and a lot from his girlfriend and every time they know its going to be in a small bright colored envelope so they always know it was for me, so I was sitting in my room studying and the other elders walked by the window and flashed a little small bright purple envelop at me and thus, I began to celebrate and gloat that I got a letter and yell touchdown and all sorts of stuff because I was excited I got a letter and elder gay came in the apartment and said "I hate to ruin your day Follett but looks like our girlfriends have the same envelopes" hahaha so ended up It was actually for elder gay and I had celebrated prematurely!

So yeah, I love you guys and hope you have a great week!

Para siempre Dios esté con vos!

(P.S. for those that actually speak Spanish you would know that this isn't actually Spanish haha it is but its how Spaniards speak not how us Latin Americans speak but its the name of a hymn so its close enough! technically I would say Para siempre Dios esté con Ustedes but yeah its just a song! You get the picture!)

I only have a few pictures this week and they were both originally snapshats but I made the kid send me them!

me and the plumber!!

this is Santiago! his older brother made the varsity soccer team at Martha Lanes Collins High school here in Shelbyville and Santiago was pretending he just signed with the high school haha

Week 27

HEY! What's up guys! I cant believe its already been a week!! It was a pretty good one! I go your package on Friday!! thank you guys so much! it was great!! thank you so much for the Spanish preach my gospel! its about time I start studying in Spanish haha Did jack get the shirt?

So this week has been a pretty normal week.  Something that I have been trying to really work on is Hope. Its something that isn't really easy or natural for me but its a huge part of missionary work.  I tend to kinda get down on myself and be negative and just flat out not have hope! especially when it comes to baptisms, I've learned that if I want to baptize, the very first thing I have to do is have a hope to baptize! its hard because I don't want to get my hopes up and then have them crushed when it doesn't happen but if I cant put forth the faith on my part to just have hope that we can baptize, it wont happen!

So after I had been consciously trying to have hope to baptize we were able to set a baptismal date with some investigators for November 8th! they accepted and said they would work towards it, so its a long shot but its better than no shot! their names are Judy and Eric so if you keep them in your prayers that would be a world of help! and were still working with Wilmer on the whole Sabbath day issue but I'm pretty hopeful!

CONFERANCE! was awesome! I love conference as a missionary haha you don't really do a lot of missionary work he whole weekend but it was still great to be uplifted and be able to watch without distraction and get so much out of it! I loved how a lot of conference was about prophets and their role and responsibility and a lot about president Monson and how great he is! I got to watch three of the five sessions in Spanish which was pretty cool! it was awesome to be able to listen to the native Spanish speakers give their talks, its just not the same when its translated! Also I don't know if you guys knew this but Elder Scott speaks Spanish so he actually prerecords and translates his own talks so I really enjoyed his on Sunday! Also I don't know if it was just me but I feel like a lot of the talks were about families and they reminded me a lot about you guys! like Tad R. Callister's talk about Dr. Benjamin Carson and how he's mother influenced his life so much and how for him his parents were his "Prime Gospel Teachers", I loved that and totally agreed! and later L. Tom Perry read Helaman 5:12, our family scripture! and on Sunday morning how Henry B. Eyring talked about how his mother always waited up for him when he came home late at night after curfew! haha brought up some painful memories but it reminded me of home and how mom was always so diligent in making sure I was doing what I was supposed to! cant get anything past her haha love you mom!

Overall this week was pretty good and I learned a lot! everyday on a mission is just a big opportunity to learn and grow and its hard but so worth it!

Love you guys so much! have a great week!
